FFCA ushered in a new era of learning with the grand opening of the North High School building in the northwest community of Montgomery. In a vibrant ceremony filled with excitement and community pride, dignitaries, students, and staff celebrated the latest addition to Alberta’s public charter school network.
The event brought together key figures, including the Honourable Demetrios Nicolaides, Minister of Education, who was on hand to cut the ceremonial ribbon and deliver a message of support for Alberta’s continued commitment to school choice. “This new campus represents our dedication to expanding educational options for families and students in Calgary,” said Minister Nicolaides. “By offering more pathways to success, we are ensuring students receive the personalized support they need to reach their full potential.”
The ceremony also featured a stirring rendition of “O Canada” by student Paul Triska, a land acknowledgment and way of life presentation by Indigenous Elder Saakokoto and reflections on the school’s journey by Superintendent Kurtis Leinweber. Jenny Hill, FFCA Board Chair, expressed FFCA’s gratitude for the Ministry’s support in making this project a reality providing a safe and state of the art space for our North High School students.
The completion of this project is the culmination of a decade of advocacy and work since the previous building was declared not suitable for students in 2014. A ceiling collapse in 2020 further added urgency to this project. FFCA’s North High School is now poised to continue and expand its role as a hub of academic excellence and community involvement, fostering leadership and character development for generations of Calgary students.
