Board Bios


Jeff Wilson 

Jeff has one son who attends the South Middle School. He is a passionate advocate for FFCA, which in his view deserves to be celebrated, recognized and protected. He is currently serving in the role of Board Chair.

Jeff is an experienced government relations and communications professional working in the oil and gas sector. He served from 2012 to 2015 as an MLA for Calgary Shaw, where he honed his skills in community engagement and developed a reputation as a strong public speaker, community advocate, and effective collaborator. Past volunteer experience consists of service in student government at MRU, sitting on local association boards, work with Ronald McDonald House and the Calgary Emergency Women's Shelter, to currently volunteering as a coach for his son's sports teams each spring and serving as a Director on the Board of the Alberta Association of Former MLAs.



Jenny Hill 

Jenny Hill has two children that have attended FFCA since kindergarten and are currently working their way through and into middle school. Jenny's passion for FFCA and parental involvement led her to start as a room parent when her daughter was in kindergarten and a few years later she became a member of the school council and the Association of School Councils (ASC). Formerly Secretary for the Board, Jenny currently holds the position of Vice-Chair.

During the day, Jenny works full-time for the United Way of Calgary and Area, a local non-profit, where she works as Executive Assistant to the President and CEO. She also works closely with their Board of Directors and has plenty of knowledge and experience working with a governance board. Jenny is not only a fantastic cook and a bit of a fitness junkie, but she is also an avid reader and if you ask, she is always happy to give you a book recommendation.

Sumara Diaz 

Sumara Diaz, CPA, CMA is a Senior Finance and Accounting Professional who has worked in the Energy industry in Calgary for the past 20 years. Sumara has a unique finance and planning background that has given her the opportunity to work with government bodies on policy and compliance matters. As an experienced advocate, she is looking forward to continuing to promote Charter schools in Calgary.

Sumara holds a Bachelor Commerce degree from the University of Calgary's Haskayne School of Business and has her CPA, CMA designation. Sumara has three children, two of whom currently attend FFCA and one who is a recent graduate. FFCA was the school system of choice for her family over 16 years ago and ever since she has proudly promoted charter schools and the option of choice in Alberta's education system.

Sumara has been described by those who have worked closely with her as focused, dedicated, committed, passionate but rational, and a strong leader who is not afraid to challenge the status quo. All attributes she feels strongly align with the character and leadership virtues instilled at FFCA. She is proud of FFCA's high academics standings and a strong believer that it is the character and leadership attributes that are shaping FFCA students into the leaders of tomorrow. She is honoured to have the opportunity to join the board of directors of FFCA.



Amanda Fisher 

Amanda has two daughters that attend FFCA, a community she is inspired by and proud to serve.  She has volunteered her time on the FFCA Audit Committee as well as in the classroom for the past 4 years.  As a Board Director, she intends to listen to the Society and Administration, really understand the challenges and opportunities presented to FFCA, and work collaboratively with the Board, Administration and governing bodies to drive the best outcomes possible for FFCA.

Amanda has a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Regina and is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA.CMA).  Over the past 16 years, she has enjoyed roles in financial reporting, internal audit and human resources - all of which have afforded her the opportunity to help leaders and teams create breakthrough moments, problem-solve, navigate change, and garner the clarity they desire to achieve success.  She recognizes her success to date is directly attributed to the relationships she has fostered along the way. Amanda enjoys camping with her family, playing softball and coaching her daughters' softball teams, gardening, learning new things and spending time with friends and family.   She volunteers her time with the South Bow River Softball Association as a program coordinator and sits on the Board.  Over the past 10 years, she has coordinated a group of 10-15 women to adopt a mom and family at Christmas to fulfill their needs and wishes through various charity organizations.



Sam Jin 

Sam has 2 kids, studying in the FFCA Elementary School. Sam got his MBA degree from Schulich School of Business at York University. He is a business owner of 2 Subway Restaurants and 1 convenience store, which enables him to think strategically and handle issues practically. Before ran his businesses, he held various management and marketing positions at 7 Eleven, Sears, and Coca-Cola Ltd Canada.

Naren Makwana 

Naren has a daughter and a son attending FFCA's North Middle School Campus. He is the Corporate Controller & Director of Finance at the Alberta Energy Regulator and has over 20 years of service within the provincial government. He works daily with multiple areas of the regulator providing leadership and support for strategic and operational planning, monitoring performance and reporting, and developing and implementing policy and control processes.

Naren's volunteer experience includes serving on the boards of the Calgary International Reggae Festival and the Calgary chapter of Financial Executives International. He has served in the roles of FFCA Board Treasurer and Audit Committee Chair since 2019.

Shahid has two daughters studying in FFCA NMS and one in NWE school. He is motivated to make FFCA a better school for his kids and other stakeholders. Shahid has been enjoying his role as a new member of the FFCA Audit Committee and has been regularly attending FFCA Board meetings as a public member.  particularly interested in promoting FFCA as a permanent choice and raising awareness about the strengths of charter schools in Alberta education community.

Shahid is the Chair, Board of Directors for Calgary Parking Authority and has 25 years of experience in governance, Information Security, finance, and risk management.

Shahid is a certified Corporate Director from ICD Canada with extensive experience with Board governance in Canada and across the globe.  Additionally, he is experienced in developing and reviewing business strategies and helping organizations to achieve them. This brings an international and diverse perspective to our Board.



Jehn Scantlebury 

Jehn is passionate about volunteering and building community, currently serving as a Director of FFCA, Chair of FFCA's Communications and Community Relations (CCR) Committee, and managing online communities to practice and promote good digital citizenship. Jehn owns Calgary-based marketing agency Injehnuity, which is focused on helping technology companies and non-profits increase visibility and revenue. Jehn is a proud mom and stepmom of four middle-schoolers, successfully juggling a fast-moving and demanding career with continuing education and parenthood since 2006.  In her spare time, she enjoys watching hockey (Go Flames!), cooking, gardening, travelling, and reading.

"I believe in choice in education and appreciate the special blend of modern ideas and traditional learning practices that FFCA offers. I'm dedicated to learning as much as possible about our role in Alberta's education system so I can be a stronger advocate for our children." 



Randall Spahl 

Randall has a daughter attending FFCA High School. He has served as School Council Chair at FFCA High School, and in the fall of 2018 was inspired to run for a position on FFCA's Board, with a particular interest in addressing the Wait List by looking for ways to expand FFCA.

Randall brings to the Board a willingness to research issues and ask tough questions. Randall has been with the City of Calgary Parks Department since 1981, specializing in Urban Forestry. For many years an active cave explorer and veteran of several expeditions to Mexico and Central America, he has held previous executive positions with the University of Calgary Caving Club, the Department of Geography Palliser Club and the Alberta Speleological Society, and represented the latter to the Federation of Alberta Naturalists.
