FFCA NEWS RELEASE
FFCA’s New North High School Campus is recognized as a Cutting Edge Facility for Students
September 15, 2023 — CALGARY, AB
Foundations for the Future Charter Academy (FFCA) is excited that the revitalization of its North High School campus has recently been recognized as a cutting-edge facility by AWARD Magazine in its September issue. The campus is being praised for taking full advantage of its terraced site, providing space for up to 1000 students in the new build. It is also being recognized for its use of sustainable features, including the installation of a solar PV system and the use of electrochromic glass.
“We’re thrilled to be able to include a solar system as part of our renewed North campus and to be able to speak to students and families about how we’re actually implementing the very same ideas on renewable and solar energy that we speak to in the classroom,” said Roger Nippard, FFCA CEO. “We were lucky to have the support and funding from the Solar for Schools Program through the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre to implement this project.”
Municipal Climate Change Action Centre is a partnership of Alberta Municipalities, the Rural Municipalities of Alberta, and the Government of Alberta. Funding for the Solar for Schools Program was provided by the Government of Alberta. Skyfire Energy has designed the solar PV system, and the energy produced will offset the building’s grid electrical energy use and is considered a ‘micro-generation’ system. Additional features in the new building include a climbing wall in the entryway and triple-height tiered seating in the foyer.
The building is slated for completion this winter and will welcome students in February 2024.
